About the HWB Scholastic Ball Hockey Leagues

Presented by the Top Cheez Sports Initiative
Building Youth. Uniting Communities. Redefining Hockey.

The HWB (Hockey Without Boundaries) Scholastic Ball Hockey Leagues are Colorado’s first fully structured, community-rooted leagues for middle school and high school students, designed to give every kid a chance to experience the game of hockey—without the barriers of cost, access, or tradition.

We’re not just running leagues.
We’re growing a movement.

Why Join the HWB Scholastic Ball Hockey League?

1. Affordable, Inclusive Access to Sport

Ice hockey can be expensive, intimidating, and out of reach for many families. Ball hockey levels the playing field:

  • No ice rinks.

  • No skates.

  • No gatekeeping.
Just sneakers, a stick, a ball, and a team.

With registration fees kept low, and equipment partnerships that provide sticks and jerseys, our goal is to remove every excuse for why a kid can’t play hockey.

2. A Gateway to a Healthier Lifestyle

Kids today are facing a crisis in physical activity. Ball hockey provides:

  • Cardiovascular exercise

  • Hand-eye coordination

  • Motor skill development

  • Teamwork and communication skills

  • A fun, structured way to burn energy and build confidence

It’s an age-appropriate, non-collision sport that’s fast enough to get hearts pumping, but flexible enough for players of all skill levels.

3. School Pride and Positive Identity

Our leagues are built around schools—giving kids a real sense of belonging and school spirit.

  • Students represent their schools in organized, competitive leagues.

  • Weekly games, standings, and playoffs fuel excitement.

  • Jerseys, highlight reels, banners, and trophies build tradition and culture.

This is about more than wins and losses. It’s about being part of something bigger than yourself.

4. Safe, Structured, Supervised

All players and coaches are required to carry a USA Ball Hockey (USABH) membership, which provides insurance coverage and national alignment with official youth sport guidelines.

  • Certified referees

  • Background-checked volunteers

  • Supervised venues in community rinks and courts

  • Age-appropriate rules and non-contact format

What Schools and Communities Get in Return

1. Youth Engagement and Retention

Our league keeps students engaged outside of school hours with something meaningful, structured, and social.

  • Reduces idle time and risky behavior

  • Builds positive peer networks

  • Encourages leadership, responsibility, and perseverance

2. A Powerful Tool for Inclusion

HWB was designed to welcome students from all backgrounds, especially those who feel left out of traditional school sports.

  • It’s co-ed

  • It welcomes first-time athletes

  • It connects urban, suburban, and underserved communities

  • It gives every student a shot to be part of the team

3. Stronger Community Ties

Local small businesses, health clinics, law firms, dentists, and churches can all contribute and sponsor teams, making this a truly community-backed initiative.

  • Sponsorship banners at games

  • Logo placement on team shirts

  • Co-branded community outreach

  • Opportunities for business-to-family relationships to grow

This isn't just good for hockey—it’s good for the community economy and neighborhood trust.

We’re Not Just Playing Hockey. We’re Building a Movement.

HWB Scholastic Leagues are backed by the Top Cheez Sports Initiative, a grassroots nonprofit with a mission to break the mold of youth sports—through creativity, inclusion, affordability, and culture. We’ve partnered with USA Ball Hockey, City of Aurora Parks & Rec, and local organizations to help this vision take root and grow across Colorado.

This is a call to schools, parents, coaches, and students:
Let’s build something that lasts.

Let’s build something that matters.
