What is TOP CHEEZ Sports Initiative?

  • TOP CHEEZ Sports Initiative is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to hockey for youth ages 6 to 17. We focus on affordable, inclusive ball hockey programming designed to welcome beginners and develop young athletes in a positive, structured environment.

Our mission is simple: We build hockey where it never existed before.

  • Yes. Our youth programs operate as a city program in partnership with Aurora Parks and Recreation and We Are Aurora Youth. Together, we provide safe, organized hockey opportunities that serve families throughout the Aurora community.

TOP CHEEZ Sports Initiative provides program leadership, coaching, equipment, and curriculum. The City supports facility access and community engagement.

  • Hockey Without Boundaries, or HWB, is our Learn to Play and league development program. It introduces youth to the fundamentals of ball hockey in a welcoming and supportive environment.

    Participants learn:

    • Stickhandling
    • Passing and shooting
    • Teamwork and communication
    • Confidence and leadership

No previous hockey experience is required.

  • The HWB Scholastic Ball Hockey League is a Summer school-year style league for elementary, middle, and high school age divisions that gives youth a consistent, organized season with teams, scheduled games, and a clear pathway to keep playing in Aurora.

  • Our programs primarily focus on ball hockey played on outdoor rinks or sport courts. No skating is required, which keeps the sport affordable and accessible for more families.

  • We offer programming for youth ages 6 to 17, organized by age group:

    • Elementary Division (6–10)
    • Middle School Division (11–13)
    • High School Division (14–17)

Each group is structured to ensure a safe, age-appropriate experience.

  • We are committed to affordability. Learn to Play programs are typically low-cost and designed to remove financial barriers. League fees vary by season but remain significantly more accessible than traditional competitive youth hockey.

Financial assistance may be available for families in need.

  • For most Learn to Play sessions, sticks and balls are provided. Participants typically need:

    • Athletic clothing
    • Sneakers
    • Water bottle

Additional safety equipment may be recommended depending on program structure.

  • Programs are hosted at Aurora Wheel Park and other approved city facilities. Additional locations may include community centers and school sites as coordinated through city partnerships.
